Withy King goes the extra mile for charity

Withy King partners and staff cycled from Bristol to Oxford visiting all three of our chosen charities for the year – from Children’s Hospice South West just outside Bristol to Wiltshire Air Ambulance in Devizes to Helen & Douglas House in Oxford. We raised over £4,000 for the three charities cycling 136 miles over two days. The route saw the Withy King team arrive at Helen and Douglas House in Oxford after starting out at Children’s Hospice South West in Bristol before riding to Wiltshire Air Ambulance in Devizes.

Earlier this year each of the three charities were chosen as Withy King’s regional charity for 2012 in each of the respective regions the firm operates; Oxford, Swindon and Bath / Bristol. The total amount raised was over £4,000 and has been split between the three charities.

Withy King partner and chair of the firm’s charities committee Chris Kane said: “As promised earlier this year when we unveiled our new brand, we are committed to making a positive impact on the communities we work in and this sponsored bike ride is one of many initiatives we have undertaken under our new charities strategy. We would like to thank our friends, family and colleagues for their generous donations and look forward to our next fundraising campaign.”

Comments from our charities’ spokespeople:
Kate Fisher, Corporate Partnerships Fundraiser at Children’s Hospice South West: “We are so delighted with what a great success this bike ride has been for Withy King. We would like to say a huge thank you to all the cyclists, organisers and supporters of this event, which has raised a substantial amount for their chosen charities. At Children’s Hospice South West, £1,000 could fund all our in house activities for the children staying with us for a year. What a fantastic achievement!”

Caroline Corrigan, Head of Fundraising at Wiltshire Air Ambulance: “Congratulations and thank you to all those who took part. We are extremely thrilled to be one of Withy King’s charities of the year which not only helps to raise funds but also our profile. On average the helicopter is tasked to three different incidences a day and costs the charity £2,000 per day to keep us in the air. This charity bike ride will go some way towards keeping us flying another day and enable us to be at a scene of an incident whenever needed.”

Aimie Hancock, Corporate Fundraiser at Helen & Douglas House: “We are absolutely delighted to have a team of Withy King cyclists take on this challenge in aid of Helen & Douglas House. The money that they have raised will help to make a significant difference to the 300 local families that we support each year who have a child affected by a life-shortening condition.”
