Tech Start-ups Booming

A report published at the beginning of the month suggested that London was now considered the technology capital of Europe, after attracting a record number of overseas technology businesses in the last year, with figures revealing that 90 European technology businesses relocated to London, an increase on 2012’s figures, with many starting up in the Tech City area.

Additional figures also revealed that London’s technology and digital sector is mushrooming, with the sector accounting for almost a third of the employment growth experienced within London.

Now on the back of these two reports, a survey, of the Top 100 start-ups within the UK, has revealed that technology businesses are dominating that start-up market.

According to the annual survey, which has been running since 2008, the top start-up in the UK is an advertising technology company which managed to double its seven-figure turnover between 2012 and last year.

Three of the other businesses in the top 5 are also technology based businesses; including second place, which went to an app which already operates in New York and Los Angeles, and raised almost $14 million in venture capital.

With recent reports highlighting a boom in the technological sector for start-ups, for those looking to start a new adventure by starting their own business – whether in the tech sector or other sectors – our commercial and corporate lawyers at Royds can assist by providing tailored legal advice.

Our solicitors in London provide a comprehensive service for business start-ups, including advising on complying with statutory requirements; service contracts; assignment of intellectual property; partnership agreements and tax registration.
