Team help charity negotiate with executors after gift in Will
Our client – WDC, Whale and Dolphin Conservation – is the leading global charity dedicated to the conservation and protection of whales and dolphins. They used our Private Client team’s services for advice after they became the beneficiary of a significant gift under a Will.
The Will was complex involving a mixture of UK and foreign assets, some of which were the subject of a claim by the extended family members of the testator.
We helped WDC with lengthy negotiations with the executors of the estate. This involved addressing some delicate issues where WDC was being asked to make some concessions in the course of the negotiations with the claimants. It was important that WDC could be seen to be fulfilling its obligations as a charity throughout this process – a fine balancing act.
Jacqui Lazare and the team helped the charity to achieve an outcome they were happy with in spite of the contentious elements of the matter. WDC is now able to use the gift and honour the wishes of its benefactors in their charity work.
