With me
My speech came back slowly but it was obvious that I had a short term memory problems and my right side was affected. I also had concentration and behavioural problems. In May of that year, I was transferred to Tadworth Court Children’s Hospital Rehabilitation Unit in Surrey where there were specialist staff who were instrumental in my recovery.
After my coma I had to re-learn to walk. I set myself the goal in 2014 to walk 150 miles in lots of walks over the course of 8 months for the Silverlining charity which helps people with acquired brain injury rebuild their lives. My support workers, family and Royds Withy King really helped and encouraged me to complete all the walks. The last ½ mile was completed at Blenheim Palace Park with lots of Silverliners and their families. It was a “most excellent” afternoon and I felt really happy having raised all the money for my chosen charities including The Children’s Trust at Tadworth Court.
During my walks I was followed by a professional film crew and being a natural performer I had great fun all the way. We composed and recorded in a professional recording studio (which has fulfilled one of my dreams) a really great song called “With Me!”
I am extremely happy with Royds Withy King as they are helping me to live my life to the full following my brain injury. I feel my trustees and I make a good team.
Tracy Norris-Evans, professional trustee, “It has been very rewarding working with Martin, who was the reason the Silverlining set up a group in Oxford three years ago under the leadership of Maggie Sargent. The Silverliners and other supporters of the charity attended a premiere of Martin’s film and song on the 2nd June and it was a fitting tribute to Martin and his family, as well as to the Silverliners who have supported Martin throughout.”
