Claim against a vet for when your horse has received negligent treatment
‘Sadly, veterinary mistakes can lead to your horse being permanently injured or in worse cases, being put down’
Claiming compensation for vet negligence
Currently in the UK the courts are unwillingly to compensate for the sentimental loss of an animal, concentrating on the financial loss. Yet, this does not mean you do not have a claim. A valuable horse, pedigree animals with breeding potential or animals who need expensive treatment could fall within the ‘causing financial loss’ category.
Unfortunately, we do not specialise in veterinary negligence claims relating to small domestic animals. Nevertheless, we would suggest that if your case relates to vets that have behaved unprofessionally, then you make a professional complaint to the Royal College for Veterinary Surgeons.
Do I have a claim against a vet?
A claim against a vet can be due to a number of reasons, including:
- misdiagnosis of the animal’s condition
- failure to administer the correct treatment
- providing outdated treatment
- not responding to an emergency call in a timely manner
- breach of duty of care.
If you’re still unsure that you have a claim, speak to one of our lawyers who will give you good honest feedback on your prospects of claiming compensation for vet negligence.
