Welcome to the 5th edition of

A note from our Editor

Our Team Around the Client Magazine continues to go from strength to strength and I am delighted to welcome you to the new look 5th edition.

We have received some fantastic feedback for our previous issues of the magazine, from case managers in particular, showing us just how informative the articles provided by our amazing contributors have been. However, we know there are always ways to improve.

So, with improvement in mind, we have now gone fully digital. Our hope is that this will make it much quicker and easier for you to read the articles that are most interesting to you, wherever you may be.

This particular edition of the magazine, other than offering a ground-up redesign, follows our Ahead Together Conference, held virtually on 9 September; the theme of the conference being “Family Identity”. As we heard at the conference, assessing the needs of the whole family after a brain injury is crucial, and in the words of David Ogden Stiers, “Family means nobody gets left behind or forgotten.”

Following the conference theme of ‘Family Identity’, in this edition we worked with a range of guest writers who all have a wealth of experience working with families affected by brain injury.

These writers include Dr Charlie Whiffin, an expert in nursing and professional practice - particularly in relation to brain injury - who explains the development of the Anchor Point, a Special Interest Group launched at Ahead Together 2021 that will focus on the family experience of brain injury.

Dr Jessica Fish, who usually writes for The Neuropsychologist, also comments on the importance of understanding family identify and draws out the key themes discussed at the recent Ahead Together conference.

Maggie Sargent, regional lead at The Silverlining Charity and a case manager who we have worked with closely for many years, sets out how her charity assists in repairing families caring for a child with a brain injury.

We have an interview with Dr Audrey Daisley – Co-Founder of Ahead Together – on her work as a specialist family therapist and how she gets the best outcomes for families.

We also have articles from our in-house legal team advising on the impact a client’s cultural background can have when approaching litigation and ongoing legal support, immigration and the multi-cultural aspects of employment of support workers (employing the right carer for your family’s identity), and a discussion piece explaining the recoverability of family therapy costs in litigation.

Whether you attended the Ahead Together Conference and want to find out more about the issue of family identity, or want to begin to explore the issue, we hope that you enjoy this edition of the magazine. Do please get in touch with us on social media or via email and let us know your feedback!
