If you require advice on a Settlement Agreement, it is vital that you take advice from an experienced employment solicitor.

Fortunately, we have a team of specialist employment solicitors based in the centre of Oxford who regularly advise both individuals and companies on all matters relating to settlement agreements and negotiations.

By law, you need to take independent legal advice before signing the Settlement Agreement. When we have booked your appointment, we will meet with you to review your situation carefully and advise you on the Settlement Agreement in plain English. Your Settlement Agreement solicitor will provide you with tailored advice to ensure that the agreement is worded correctly and adequately compensates you.

Our service will always include advice in relation to:

  • any legal claims you are giving up
  • negotiating an increased settlement where required
  • obtaining an agreed reference
  • taxation.

How much might I receive and will it be taxed?

Each Settlement Agreement is different but the level of compensation is often dependent on your length of service, your contractual benefits and the value and merits of any claims you are giving up. If you feel that you have not been offered enough compensation, please raise this with us as we regularly negotiate better terms and increased compensation for clients.

Generally compensation of £30,000 can be paid tax free. We will review your agreement to ensure your compensation is tax efficient.

How long will it take?

We understand that our clients are busy people and, wherever possible, we will book an appointment for the next working day. If, after the appointment, no further work is needed on the agreement, we can send the signed Settlement Agreement to the company after the appointment.

How much will it cost?

Your employer will normally contribute towards the cost of the advice, and in most cases you will pay nothing for the initial appointment. We will invoice your employer directly to make things as simple as possible for you.

Our Oxford specialists

Our Oxford team is led by Mark Emery who also sits as an Employment Judge. His extensive experience enables our team to understand the issues which have given rise to your Settlement Agreement, whether there are potential legal claims and if so their prospects.  With this information, we are often able to negotiate increased compensation, gaining results beyond our clients’ initial expectations.
