Strong legal experience throughout the sector
The building, construction and property (real estate) sector is one of the most significant contributors to the UK economy – with over 250,000 firms employing almost 2 million people. Despite the reduction in public spending affecting social housing, education and health markets, the commercial market is finally starting to recover following the devastation caused by the 2009 global recession. For example, new development in the City of London shows a small but steady increase since the middle of 2010 but is nowhere near the peaks of 2007-2008. Residential property prices however remain depressed. However, the reduced values have attracted business and consumer investment from overseas – particularly for prime properties in highly sought after central London locations.
As well as acting for leading architects and surveyors Royds Withy King advises a number of those in the property services industry as well as the full range of property investors, developers (both commercial and residential), traders and landlords. We also act for a significant number of business tenants and occupiers and even have specialist teams dealing with retail property and charities.
Our property sector clients often ask us to help with the various contracting issues with designers and consultants, supplier of raw materials and components and the contractors themselves. We are also often asked by major lenders and banks to help with financing agreements where property is a major asset – and have even helped large state owned enterprises on infrastructure projects abroad.
