Same-Sex Motion Rejected

Last week, the motion expressed that other parts of the UK have moved forward with same-sex marriage and Northern Ireland should also introduce similar legislation. It also stated that religious institutions should have the freedom to decide whether or not to conduct same-sex marriages.

However, as a result of the third vote in 18 months, the motion was rejected with 51 votes against the motion, compared to 43 in favour. The decision by the Northern Ireland Assembly to reject the motion means that Northern Ireland remains the only part of the UK not to pass a law on same-sex marriage.
