Oxfordshire entrepreneurs, CEOs and start-up businesses are invited to a series of events on innovation in science and technology, run by The Bessemer Society.

The events, which are sponsored by UK Top 100 law firm RWK Goodman in Oxford and other local businesses, will celebrate the entrepreneurial culture of the region and encourage attendees to share their ideas on combining technical and business skills. They will also feature interactive discussions led by experts in the field, such as Dr Gordon Sanghera, CEO of Oxford Nanopore Technologies.

The Society is planning a series of workshops in 2017 and a major dinner each year, which started with a launch dinner on 11 July at Rhodes House, supported by Oxford University Innovation and Oxford Sciences Innovation.

Simon Bassett, lead partner in the Oxford office of RWK Goodman, said: “We are delighted to be working collaboratively on these events with a number of co-sponsors, including Harwell Campus and Wellers Accountants, to provide businesses with access to a wide range of experts and topics. Oxfordshire is a hotbed of entrepreneurial talent, particularly in the life sciences and technology sectors, and what we often find is that the most successful of these businesses are able to strike the right balance between scientific and commercial needs to secure future opportunities for growth.”

Angus Horner, director at Harwell Campus said: “We know from the popularity of our Connect Harwell Workshops that there is absolutely an appetite from science and innovation organisations to have the very best business advice. We are excited to be supporting this enriching and informative series of events, to help bring together leading voices and those committed to creating successful new companies.”

Alex Stewart, founder of the Bessemer Society, a UK forum for CEOs and founders involved in bringing technologies to market, said: “We were delighted to hold the inaugural dinner of the Bessemer Society’s Oxford Branch on 11 July, which launched this new addition to the Oxford tech-sphere. It’s fantastic that local partners, such as RWK Goodman, share our enthusiasm and are joining us in what promises to be great forums for attendees to network and develop new contacts.”

RWK Goodman, which has a dedicated technology sector team with life sciences expertise, is also supporting a series of events at Harwell Campus.
