But it wouldn’t be a solicitors’ party without a point of appeal at the end.  It came it the form of a communal uprising and flailing of the arms regarding the answer to “Who was the British Prime Minister between 1880 and 1885.” Of course it wasn’t Benjamin Disraeli who became Prime Minister in 1868. The correct answer was William Ewart Gladstone who (at 84 when he resigned) remains Britain’s oldest PM.  Mr Gladstone was renowned for his poor relations with Queen Victoria who once complained: “He always addresses me as if I were a public meeting.”  

Luckily the quiz night was a friendly meeting of minds helped along by some great food, fine wine, and excellent company.

The winning team was ‘Male Venice Roadsweepers’ comprising Darren Stones, Des Daly, Mathew Gullick, Odhran Dodd, Chris Mills, Colin Wright, Simon Newark, Gary Shortman, Tony Millson. They each took away with them a bottle of wine.

But the star Royds prize – wooden spoons –  went to – ‘Shame On Us’ made up of Francis Kendall, Tom Spanyol, Travis Raath, Malika Halla, Bobby Pozzoni, Holgar Schmidt, Alison Le Gassick, Ben Harris and Beate Oera.  Better luck next time guys!

We would also like to thank those who were unable to stay for the whole evening but made the effort to come along for a few drinks.
