Record breaking iPhone sales

Its almost impossible to escape from talk about the new iPhones or iOS 7. So what’s the verdict after the weekend of the launch?

It is being reported that Apple has sold more than 9 million of its latest iPhones over the launch weekend. This is up from 5 million last year and much higher than expected by most- another iPhone sales record. We have to remember however that this is the first time Apple made its new iPhones available in China on the first day of sales rather than the usual three-month delay after the US and UK.

Apple has also confirmed that more than 200 million people have also upgraded their existing iPhones to iOS 7. Which is twice as many as downloaded its predecessor in its first few days a year ago.

Successful sales have allowed Apple to upgrade its financial guidance for its fourth quarter. It said sales would be “near the high end” of its previous guidance range of $34bn to $37bn.

Unfortunately its not all good news as Hackers have claimed to have broken 5S’s Touch ID fingerprint recognition system. Germany’s Chaos Computer Club claims it “successfully bypassed the biometric security of Apple’s Touch ID using easy everyday means”. Apple is yet to comment on this claim.

Has anyone managed to get their hands on the Gold iPhone 5S yet? If you have any comments or questions on this blog please contact John North, Head of Corporate Commercial or Sonia Mohammed
