Pilot scheme looks at ways to deal with litigation more quickly

Under proposals, set to take effect from October 1st 2015, cases dealt with under the trial arrangements will be expected to conclude within 12 months of proceedings getting underway.

The new pilot scheme can apply to all claims issued from any of the Rolls Building courts after this date.

Cases would be limited to four days, including reading time, and there will also be limits on the length of witness statements and the volume of paperwork.

Supporters say this system will give parties more certainty going forward, although others argue that it remains to be seen how effective the process will be in practice.
