Paula joined our Property Disputes team in summer 2021. She has specialised in property litigation work throughout her career.
Paula has extensive experience in the full range of contentious property matters. She advises on a wide range of disputes including:
- business lease renewals
- repair obligations
- recovery of rent arrears and service charges
- possession proceedings
- boundary disputes.
Paula has particular expertise and a wealth of experience in acting for both landlords and tenants in unopposed and opposed lease renewals under the Landlord and Tenant Act 1954.
- Dealt with a complex adverse possession claim before the Adjudicator to HM Land Registry regarding land in a remote hamlet in the Lake District; represented owners of the properties in the remote hamlet and succeeded in resisting the adverse possession claim to the wastes in the centre of the hamlet.
- Acted for defendants in Griffin v Wainwright and another  EWHC 2122 (CH) and succeeded in setting aside, for procedural unfairness, an expert determination that had taken place.
- Acted for contractors on a large construction project facing a substantial claim for defective works and consequential loss. Advised the client on mitigation and pursuing the client’s subcontractors who had professional indemnity insurance. Following appointment of administrators for the subcontractors, made a successful claim against the insurers under the Third Parties (Rights Against Insurers) Act.

Paula is a keen runner and regularly takes part in half marathons. She also enjoys fell walking in one of her favourite holiday spots, the Lake District.
