Chris is an experienced commercial litigator and heads up the firm’s dispute resolution team. He is also an Accredited Mediator with the ADR Group which means that clients can benefit from his in-depth knowledge of alternative dispute resolution methods when facing a dispute.

Incisive, pragmatic, knowledgeable and available. These are some of Chris' qualities as a lawyer. But to me, Chris' key quality is his focus on people. People and relationships are very important to him. This is genuinely rare among lawyers. He is therefore very well-connected, highly respected and well liked. He is a pleasure to work with, even though the issues you often have to deal with during dispute resolution can be stressful and unpleasant. And I trust Chris' judgment.

About Chris

Chris has over 18 years’ experience of dealing with client issues relating to employment law, professional negligence, commercial contract disputes and company and partnership matters. He is also recognised by Chambers & Partners UK as a “Leader in his field“.

Chris’s experience of commercial disputes includes:

  • director and shareholder disputes
  • commercial and contractual disputes
  • debt recovery and issues relating to bankruptcy, liquidation, receivership and corporate insolvency
  • intellectual property, copyright and employment contractual disputes.

Chris trained at Royds Withy King and qualified in 1985. During his career at Royds Withy King he has not only had client facing roles, but also been an active member of the senior management team, including a three-year period as Business Development Director. He is an elected member of the Board and remains actively involved in a number of firm-wide initiatives.

As part of his personal commitment to raising funds for charity, in 2011 Chris attempted to climb Mount Kilimanjaro. The initiative was not without incident: Chris ended up in hospital with a combination of altitude sickness and acute dehydration. Naturally disappointed on not reaching the summit having come so close, Chris still managed to raise over £25,000 for his chosen charity, Help for Heroes.

The Legal 500 - The Clients Guide to Law Firms

I’ve always felt I was good at getting under the client’s ‘skin’, so that I really get a first-hand understanding of the issues they’re facing. It means that whatever recommendation I make goes beyond a legal solution and becomes more about a practical, commercial answer, and one that’s affordable for them. As I’ve worked across several areas of the business, I have a broader perspective than most. I always seek to ensure my involvement adds value to the client’s business.
