About Andrew

Andrew established his own niche bloodstock practice in 1999, and joined Royds Withy King as a partner in 2004.

Andrew’s knowledge in his chosen sectors is second to none, having been independently rated as a leader in the field by legal directories Chambers and Partners and Legal 500 for many, many years. He has appeared in a number of very high profile cases that have been widely reported in the national media. According to Chambers and Partners UK, who recognise him as a “Leader in his field”, Andrew “knows horse racing inside out“, and “has excellent bloodstock experience“. “He knows his stuff and understands the industry, and it’s easy to do business with him.” (Chambers and Partners UK 2015) and commentators salute him as “a great quality regulatory lawyer” (Chambers and Partners UK 2013). The Legal 500 UK most recently commended him for his “exceptional judgment”, describing him as “first class with his clients”.

Andrew has great experience in a broad range of work including:

  • Agricultural and equestrian property transactions
  • High-value estates negotiating regulatory and agricultural and business tenancy issues
  • Sports disciplinary and licensing cases, including appearing before the Disciplinary Panel and Appeal Board of the British Horseracing Authority representing jockeys, trainers and owners
  • Specialist commercial agreements, including sponsorship agreements under the Rules of Racing and ownership and syndications of racehorses and other bloodstock.

The Legal 500 - The Clients Guide to Law Firms

I have a passion for horseracing and bloodstock, and a real appreciation for the issues facing those who work in those communities. I am fortunate to work with so many interesting clients and on such a wide range of fascinating issues. I live and breathe the areas in which I work and talk my clients’ language.
