Online bankruptcy service introduced
Earlier this month the Insolvency Service launched an online bankruptcy application service.
From now on all those who intend to make themselves bankrupt can complete a form and submit it electronically. Their application will then be passed to a government adjudicator to be examined.
This is quite a departure from the previous system, which involved paperwork being submitted to the court and considered by a Judge.
Sarah Albon, the Insolvency Service’s chief executive, said: “Seeking help to deal with problem personal debt is the key step to being able to move forward.
“Online bankruptcy applications will be easier for people to complete and will remove the perceived stigma of going to court, which we know stops some people from applying.”
The process for having other people declared bankrupt is to remain unchanged.
