The head of the Industrial Diseases team at law firm Royds Withy King has recently been appointed to Mesothelioma UK’s Board of Trustees.
Partner Helen Childs, who is nationally-renowned for successfully pursuing complex industrial diseases legal claims, has been appointed a trustee of Mesothelioma UK.
Commenting on her new role, Helen said: “I am so proud and honoured to be given the opportunity to help Mesothelioma UK by becoming a trustee. I am such a strong supporter of this amazing charity. The support it provides to individuals who are diagnosed with mesothelioma is invaluable, and it is also a valuable resource for healthcare professionals involved in their treatment. It’s a privilege to be able to help this amazing charity, which is run by such a fabulous team.”
Royds Withy King’s industrial diseases team of specialist lawyers represents people who have contracted mesothelioma and other asbestos related illnesses – as a result of working with asbestos many years earlier. However they also recently represented the Lydia Carey in a case against Vauxhall Motors involving contamination from her husband’ John’s overalls. The first successful overalls case in England.
Helen’s appointment comes after Mesothelioma UK named Royds Withy King as its Corporate Donor of the Year in 2018 and also asked them to help with their recently launched Gendered Experience of Mesothelioma study, to try and improve the diagnosis and treatment pathway for women affected by mesothelioma.
Mesothelioma UK was launched in 2004 to raise awareness of mesothelioma, an asbestos related cancer that continues to kill over 2500 people in the UK every year – a number that is still continuing to increase. The aim of the charity is to provide specialist information, support and education and to improve care and treatment for those affected by mesothelioma. It funds incredibly important research, including the national mesothelioma audit, which assesses the treatment provided to people with individuals with mesothelioma nationwide, with the aim of developing and promoting best practice. It also funds, trains and supports a dedicated network of specialist nurses across the UK, as well as acting as a real source of expert information for medical staff and people affected by mesothelioma on the availability of and eligibility for clinical trials.
