Mesothelioma claim compensation for a former technician at Monsanto Chemicals Ltd aka the Ruabon Works

Throughout his working life, our client Mr J was employed by Monsanto Chemicals Ltd at their factory in North Wales, known locally as "the Ruabon Works". In its heyday the company employed hundreds of people and was one of the largest, if not the largest, employers in the area. Monsanto Chemicals Ltd was taken over by Flexys Rubber Chemicals Ltd and the factory subsequently closed.

Mr J was employed as a mechanical technician. Although during his lifetime it was suspected by those treating him that he had mesothelioma, it was only after his death that the disease was formally diagnosed.

Mr J’s widow pursued the claim on behalf of her late husband’s estate. Associate Maggie Powell traced Mr J’s former work colleagues who confirmed that asbestos was widely used in the factory for insulation purposes and that in the course of his employment Mr J was exposed to asbestos. The claim settled for a substantial sum.

Sadly this is not an isolated case. Our client’s former work colleagues confirmed they had provided statements for other ex employees who had been affected by mesothelioma. Although the factory has now closed, it is highly likely that more former employees will go on to develop asbestos-related diseases, which could include asbestosis, pleural thickening, lung cancer or indeed mesothelioma.
