Coronavirus Act 2020 – Emergency legislation regulating the eviction process becomes law

All ongoing residential housing possession actions are suspended for an initial period of 90 days with further scope for a further period of extension thereafter.

This measure has been brought in by the government to ensure that during the Coronavirus pandemic no social or private renters will be forced out of their homes. Tenants are reminded that the responsibility for paying rent continues. Similarly, landlords remain legally obligated to ensure any urgent health and safety repairs at a property are carried out.

We will continue keep you updated as to the impact of these measures as and when further information is released.
