Israel looking to forge new links with Tech City firms

Avi Hasson, a senior figure in the Ministry of the Economy, heaped praise on London’s “young and energetic” tech sector, during a visit to the capital last week.

While here recently, he met with cabinet ministers and British business chiefs to talk about greater co-operation between the two nations.

“With companies in Israel there’s a desire to make the shift to working more with the UK rather than automatically look at the US,” he said.

“We are trying to create platforms of collaboration between the governments and discussing ways we can help bring companies together.”

Mr Hasson said that shorter journey times and Britain’s links with the European Union could make the UK a more attractive proposition than California.

If more business could be agreed with Israel it would be a further boost to the firms thriving in and around Shoreditch  - the area which has earned itself the ‘Tech City’ title.

In particular it would open the door to deals with companies in Silicon Wadi – a coastal plain in Israel which boasts a large cluster of tech companies.
