Withy King helps Mouth and Foot Painting Artist Keith Jansz raise money for the Spinal Injuries Association

Keith Jansz was tragically injured in a car accident which resulted in complete paralysis from the shoulders down. He is now a member of the Mouth and Foot Painting Artists, an international self help organisation for disabled artists. Withy King is hosting an exhibition of Keith Jansz’s work until 11 July 2014.

Nearly 20 years ago, Keith suffered a broken neck in a tragic car accident which resulted in complete paralysis from his shoulders down. Keith spent six months at the National Spinal Injuries Centre at Stoke Mandeville Hospital. When he returned home he began the painful process of adjusting to his new situation and was inspired to paint after he was given a book entitled “Painters First” which is a collection of biographies of the Mouth and Foot Painting Artists. He began painting holding a brush in his mouth and was accepted as a student artist by the Mouth and Foot Painting Artists. He is now a full member artist of the association.

His paintings have sold worldwide and he has solo exhibited in the UK and Italy as well as having his paintings exhibited in Lisbon, Madrid, Copenhagen, Shanghai and the States.

Ian Carrier, partner and head of the Spinal Injuries team at Withy King, says: "I first met Keith at a recent event in London in aid of the Spinal Injuries Association which we support through sponsorship of their Peer Support Officers, Graham Anderson (South West) and John Leonard (Oxfordshire). My colleagues and I were all tremendously impressed by his talent and the inspirational approach that he takes to his work."

“Following on from this meeting, we were delighted to be given the opportunity to exhibit Keith’s work at our offices in Oxford and Keith has very generously offered to donate 20% of the proceeds from each painting sold to the SIA.”

The exhibition began with an exclusive private view on 4 June which Withy King clients and contacts attended, and which saw a number of paintings sold. The exhibition runs until 11 July 2014 and anyone with an interest in art is very welcome to call into our offices on New Inn Hall Street in Oxford to see Keith’s work. You can also see his work online at www.keithjansz.com.
