Stone quarry worker who suffered an arm amputation receives £475,000 after horrific accident at work

When Mr W* set off for work one day in September 2001 he expected it to be a usual day at the quarry, but it quickly turned into a day of disaster.

Mr W worked at a local stone quarry and on the day was working alongside a conveyor belt moving heavy stone. Tragically It was unguarded and part of his clothing became caught in it and his right arm was severed and he had a blow to the head. The head injury resulted in him losing all memory of the accident. He had numerous operations including a tracheotomy and several skin grafts in the attempt to reattach his arm, His physical traumas were severe and he also suffered from severe depression.

Like most employers, they argued that Mr W was partially to blame for the accident which would mean his compensation would be reduced.
