Grey Matters: Cyber Solutions, Securing Client Data & GDPR Update
There is a whole grey area out there for in-house lawyers. From GDPR, cyber-security, blockchain, all the way through to the gender pay gap, AI, and agile working. These issues are complex and ambiguous adding extra pressure on your role, and what’s more, these problems rarely have a single black or white answer.
The traditional in-house role has evolved from being a transactional formality into a strategic partnership interacting with every part of the business. You are tasked with doing more than ever before and often, with limited resource. You want to be able to identify and handle difficult situations and be seen as a business partner helping your company to grow.
We have set up Grey Matters - our community of in-house lawyers to enable you to discuss these grey areas, share your knowledge, challenges and expertise in a safe and collaborative environment.
Programme
You wear a number of hats: cyber threat expert, CEO confidante, Board member, GDPR guru and departmental head. This interactive roundtable will look at cyber threats and the solutions out there, how to secure client data and provide a practical update on where we are with GDPR.

2.40pm - Nick Jones, Managing Director, Focus Oxford Risk Management Ltd: Cyber threats…cyber solutions
“There are two types of companies, those that have been hacked…..and those that will be hacked.” Robert Mueller, former FBI Director.
Nick will look at why companies need and should buy cyber insurance and what it will protect them from. He will talk about the tactics that cyber criminals take when trying to hack into companies’ systems and how to educate your employees to deflect/avoid these attacks. Nick will also share what lessons has he learned from his clients’ experiences.
3.10pm - Dave Eagle, Head of Client Solutions & Innovation, RWK Goodman: Securing client data: email and beyond
In our always on world we’re expected to share data electronically in real time. How can we achieve this while still adhering to GDPR and keeping data secure? In this interactive session we will discuss the tools you use, others that are available as well as additional methods for sharing data.

Now that GDPR has been in force for approximately 18 months, we will look at the areas businesses still need to be aware of including some practical considerations.
• A reminder of the principles and steps businesses should already have taken to ensure compliance
• How the ICO has been approaching alleged breaches
• How best to deal with subject access requests
• How Brexit may impact on GDPR and transfers of data to and from the EU.
