First Same-Sex Church Wedding
However, whilst same-sex marriages can take place within civic reception halls and other premises with a marriage licence, those religious organisations who wish to conduct same-sex marriages are required to “opt in” – and it is believed the same first same-sex marriage to take place within a religious organisation, in the UK, took place over the weekend.
According to reports published yesterday (March 14th), a same-sex couple from Bournemouth became the first same-sex couple to get married within a religious building.
Following the service both the couple and Reverend took pride in the marriage; with the Reverend stating that the Church had been blessing same-sex couples for a number of years.
