Cybersquatting

Domains such as GeorgeAlexanderLouis.com and princegeorgecambridge.co.uk were taken within moments of the name announcement. Between 22 and 25 July, Names.co.uk noted 413 individual domains that contained one or more of the words Royal, Baby, HRH, Prince, George, Alexander and or Louis.

Cybersquatting involves registering, selling or using a domain name in bad faith with the intent of profiting from the goodwill of someone else's trademark. It generally refers to the practice of buying up domain names that include the names of existing businesses or celebrities with the intent to sell the names for a profit to those businesses.

If you suspect that someone is cybersquatting on a domain name in which you have an interest please contact John North, Head of Corporate and Commercial on 020 7583 2222 or [email protected] or Sonia Mohammed [email protected]
