Busy month in CRPS – team dons best orange gear and supports adolescent sufferers

For the second year running, RWK Goodman staff will be donning their best orange clothing in support of one of the biggest charity days held for Complex Regional Pain Syndrome (CRPS) sufferers.

“Colour the World Orange” CRPS awareness day will be celebrated on Monday 6th November 2017 internationally. This is an annual event which aims to spread awareness of CRPS and staff at RWK Goodman will be raising money for CRPS-UK.

CRPS is unfortunately not properly understood and as a result of this many patients do not have access to the right treatment and advice. There is, however, a large support network that is run by a small group of people who dedicate so much of their time and effort to helping other people who have suffered from this poorly understood condition. They are CRPS-UK.

CRPS-UK was formed in 2011 and is a patient-led organisation that RWK Goodman are proud to support. They used to be a small support group based at the Royal National Hospital for Rheumatic Diseases (or “The Mineral Hospital” as it is known locally). They have grown enormously since then and have been awarded charity status. Now they support patients nationwide, not only raising awareness of this debilitating condition, but also helping people who suffer from CRPS live their lives as normally as possible; the aim of this being to help unite patients suffering from this condition. The work that CRPS-UK does is invaluable as they help patients to live with the pain they find themselves in.

CRPS-UK will also be holding a child and adolescence conference at The Mineral Hospital in Bath on Saturday 28th October 2017. The day will focus on how to support children and adolescents with CRPS and their families. The conference will feature talks from childhood and adolescent CRPS services, providing information about support available for children and young people with CRPS and their families. There will also be a talk from a family about their experiences living with CRPS. RWK Goodman’s CRPS claims team will be present at the conference offering free legal advice to any CRPS patients who would like information about pursuing a personal injury claim.

Despite the lack of an apparent cause, the sensation of pain that is central to CRPS is physical and very real to the sufferer. This condition can be worsened by psychological symptoms. If left untreated, CRPS can cause severe distress and long term disability. RWK Goodman’s CRPS claims team act on behalf of many individuals who suffer from CRPS, helping them secure compensation which can be life changing. RWK Goodman are committed to raising awareness of CRPS and supporting those that are suffering from it.

RWK Goodman and the CRPS claims team are proud to support CRPS-UK and “Colour the World Orange” CRPS awareness day, helping raise awareness for this debilitating, chronic pain condition.
