“Brightly coloured gems and geometric shapes” and “Created in the UK” – emerging trends and developments at the International Jewellery London 2019 (IJL 2019) trade show.
As appointed legal advisers to the National Association of Jewellers (NAJ), Stephen was on hand throughout the day to provide advice to exhibitors and members of the NAJ on brand protection, mitigating the risk of copyright infringement and addressing design concerns.
The event attracted some new and upcoming exhibitors, all marketing jewellery consistent with the emerging design trends this year.
Key jewellery trends emerging as we enter the autumn and winter seasons and going in to 2020 include geometric shapes and brightly coloured gems, and the resurgence of pearls. Catwalk shows throughout the day displayed the intricate jewellery designed by exhibitors at the event.
The NAJ launched its “Created in the UK” programme to champion British manufacturing which is open to non-members as well as existing NAJ members. Simon Forrester, Chief Executive of the NAJ hosted a launch presentation and Q&A session at the IJL which was well received by attendees. The programme will enable jewellery, silverware and related products, created in the UK to be hall marked (where appropriate and with the assistance of the UK Assay Offices), trade marked (with the distinctive NAJ ‘Created in the UK’ trade mark – registration pending) and promoted as UK products
This presents a new and exciting opportunity for jewellers and retailers across the country.
Stephen and Irene Trubbiani Montagnac (Royds Withy King London commercial department) advised the NAJ on the launch of this programme and prepared the necessary key legal documents.

The day finished with an after show party, hosted by the NAJ and The Retail Jeweller trade magazine to celebrate the ‘Created in the UK’ launch.
Stephen commented, “It’s good that the NAJ is actively promoting British manufacturing as well as design in this distinctive way, which I fully expect to add value to the goods, and those brands that participate in the programme. We at Royds Withy King are delighted to be involved in this and to have drafted the key documents”.
