Bribery Act Prosecutions Increase

Therefore, recent statistics suggest that that the number of Bribery Act prosecutions taking place within the UK are increasing; with nine individuals currently facing charges under the Act, whilst another three have been successfully convicted.

Whilst the latest figures have revealed that so-far 12 individuals have face / are facing prosecutions via the Bribery Act 2010; over the last six year, 53 individuals have been convicted in the UK of bribery and / or corruption offences.

However, perhaps surprisingly, of these cases less than 30 have been prosecuted by the Serious Fraud Office; supporting claims that other prosecutors – such as the Financial Conduct Authority – are implementing stricter penalties, and in a quicker timeframe in relation to bribery offences.

The latest figures also add to suggestions that other prosecution bodies are continuing to play a significant role in prosecuting individuals under the UK’s anti-corruption legislation, including the Bribery Act.
