Bribery Act expert to address European conference

A Royds Partner will be addressing a top international conference on the subject of the UK’s Bribery Act.

Claus Andersen, a member of the law firm’s Corporate and Commercial team, will be among the guest speakers at the European GRC (Governance, Risk Management and Compliance) Summit.

The event, now in its ninth year, will be taking place at the World Trade Center, Stockholm on November 23rd-24th.

Claus has a wealth of experience advising companies on the Bribery Act – a flagship piece of legislation which was passed by Parliament five years ago.

The laws – designed to curb corrupt practices in businesses - came into force in 2011.

Claus said: “While the Bribery Act has now been in place for a number of years, a recent study suggested that many businesses still don’t understand what their obligations are.

“This is a cause for concern as the sanctions imposed on firms who fail to comply with the legislation are substantial. In the most serious cases they could destroy a business.

“I welcome the opportunity to once again be able to address the Summit and explain to delegates how the Act has been applied up until this point, what they should do to ensure they meet their obligations and what possible changes may be made to the law in future.”

Companies from across the continent will be attending the event to discuss and debate issues including fraud, corruption, cyber-security and audits.
