£250,000 compensation for a woman who contracted sepsis following the birth of her baby at the Royal United Hospital in Bath

Kerstin Scheel, Partner at RWK Goodman, represented a woman, B, in a medical negligence claim against the Royal United Hospitals Bath NHS Foundation Trust. B was discharged from hospital following the birth of her baby in spite of having signs and symptoms of infection. She was admitted the following day by ambulance and was diagnosed with sepsis caused by Group A Streptococcus (Strep A).

As a result of the delay in diagnosing and treating the Strep A infection, B had to undergo a total hysterectomy and suffered from acute kidney injury and symptoms of PTSD.

The award of £250,000 will compensate B for the pain and suffering she endured; the care that she required as a result of the sepsis; her loss of earnings; and the cost of therapy.
