£1 million award supports lifetime care support

Mr. G*, aged 39, was involved in a road traffic accident when he was driving a van which collided with an oncoming vehicle. The accident resulted in Mr. G sustaining a front skull fracture with serious injury to the frontal lobes of his brain.

His injury resulted in problems with his memory and attention span, fatigue, agitation and sensitivity to noise.

Mr G’s life was seriously changed by the accident. He developed obsessive traits, particularly in relation to cleanliness and became very isolated socially due to a loss of confidence. His sense of taste and smell were also affected by his brain injury. Unfortunately, Mr. G was discharged from hospital without receiving any specialist rehabilitation to help him to adjust to the on-going effects of his brain injury.

Before the accident, Mr G had lived alone, fully independent. The extent of his injuries meant he could no longer live alone and he lived with various relatives over the years before finally settling with his elderly mother. He struggled to cope with many areas of his daily life and needed assistance from his family. Stuart Brazington was asked to pursue Mr G’s compensation claim by his family.

Stuart acted on behalf of Mr. G and was able to recover the care costs that the family had provided for him. He then instructed a care expert whose evidence convinced the Court that Mr G’s compensation needed to account for the full cost of professional support for the remainder of his life.

Mr. G was awarded £1.08 million in compensation to fund his future care needs and to alleviate his family form the worry of providing for his future care needs.

Mr. G’s mother concluded: “This is not something anybody could embark upon without good advice and help, and you have provided us with both”.
