HMS Alliance appeal: Withy King and Charles Stanley host fundraising talk to save submarine
Bath-based law firm Withy King and investment brokers Charles Stanley jointly hosted a talk by Vice Admiral Sir Tim McClement KCB OBE on Wednesday 26 September about his experiences as second in command of HMS Conqueror during the Falklands campaign in 1982.
The talk was in aid of the Alliance Appeal of the Royal Navy Submarine Museum in Gosport to ensure that HMS Alliance (the last remaining A Class submarine and only British WW2 era full scale submarine open to the public in the world ) can be preserved as a permanent memorial to the 5,300 British submariners who have lost their lives in the service of their country.
The event raised over £2,000 for the museum. Commodore Chris Munns, Director of the Royal Navy Submarine Museum commented, “It was a very successful evening and the monies raised will help restore HMS Alliance and make the submarine even more accessible allowing her to continue to provide a fascinating insight into life on board a submarine”.
James McNeile, Head of Private Client at Withy King added, “We were delighted to be involved, with Charles Stanley, in supporting the Alliance Appeal and it was a fantastic opportunity to hear about the role of HMS Conqueror in the Falklands campaign. Sir Tim’s talk highlighted the extraordinary bravery of those involved in the submarine service”.
