On Tuesday May 27th it was confirmed that the Serious Fraud Office had begun a formal criminal investigation into a leading drug company, GlaxoSmithKline, which is already facing claims of bribery in five other countries, including China.

Over recent weeks, there have been numerous reports that the drug company was facing investigations relating to bribery offences; whilst almost a fortnight ago, Chinese police confirmed that charges were being brought against several members of staff at the drug company.

Now, as was widely expected, the Serious Fraud Office has confirmed that it has launched a formal criminal investigation into the commercial practices of both the drug company and its subsidiaries; although neither the company nor Serious Fraud Office have confirmed further details in relation to the investigation.

With news that GlaxoSmithKline is facing further investigations in relation to their commercial practices; for those businesses which face allegations relating to bribery offences or fraud, our corporate and commercial solicitors will be able to assist.
