Docklands – A new technology hub?
Towards the end of the new year it was announced that e-commerce giant Alibaba made the move from Mayfair to new premises at Canary Wharf.
Founded in China 15 years ago, the company provides a range of sales services via web portals and is headed up by Jack Ma – one of the richest men in the world.
Alibaba first moved to the capital five years ago, as part of efforts to generate more business in Europe.
The firm’s decision to move to the Docklands is another vote of confidence for an area, which is increasingly seen as a rival to London’s traditional tech centre in Shoreditch.
Shortly before the move, Mayor of London, Boris Johnson, threw his weight behind proposals to redevelop an area at Wood Wharf. Much of the new office space which will be available as part of the project is expected to accommodate technology, media and telecoms companies.
At Royds we have substantial experience in advising technology companies. For more information on the services Royds can offer to tech companies please feel free to contact John North or Claus Andersen on 020 7583 2222.
