Divorcee Signs £60,000 a week Divorce Settlement

He subsequently claimed that he signed the document when he did not have his reading glasses on and was therefore unaware of what he was signing.

In his witness statement, the husband also suggested that “he did not know what he was signing or, if he did, his mind was altered by the circumstances so that he did not fully appreciate what he was putting his signature to.”

However, in his ruling, the Judge stated that he found the claims from the husband hard to believe, and following evidence of substantial wealth, ordered the husband to pay £33,000 a month in maintenance to his former wife and children; stating that such payments were reasonable.

This case has revealed the importance of ensuring that both parties are fully aware of what they are signing in matrimonial matters.
