Dismissal for taking bribe was fair
In Blake v Home Office an Employment Tribunal has held that an employer was right to dismiss an employee for taking a bribe even though she subsequently informed her employer of the fact.
The Tribunal considered that the employer was entitled to take into account that the Claimant held a public position which required her to carry out her functions with a high degree of trust and integrity and that she had not reported the bribe to her employer in a timely manner in accordance with the Bribery Act.
