Compensation for cyclist kicked from his bike by a horse and left with severely injured leg

Posted by , Partner

£65,000 settlement secured under Animals Act and negligence for accident on trail.

Our client was cycling through the New Forest when he came upon a group of three horses riding ahead of him and blocking the width of the trail. He slowed and remained a safe distance behind the horses, calling out and ringing his bell to alert the riders of his presence.

However, when the riders didn’t react and the path widened, our client cycled past on their left side, remaining about 15 feet away as he did so. The defendant’s horse reared up then came down on all fours and kicked out. Our client was left with a large open wound on his right thigh and a three-part fracture of his femur.

We brought a claim on his behalf, under the Animals Act and for negligence, and, although the defendant denied liability, secured £65,000 in compensation for our client.
