City law firm produces guide to settlement agreements

The PDF, which is available to download for free from the firm’s website, looks at why guides are signed, the legal implications and what can happen when no settlement agreement is in place.

It is an opportune time for employers to remind themselves of the legal principles as changes to the tax regime around settlement agreements are likely to take effect next year.

Richard Woodman, Royds’ head of employment law, said: “There are a variety of situations where it can be useful for a company to use a settlement agreement.

“Their use has in fact been encouraged by the Government who see them as an opportunity to prevent formal disputes developing down the line.

“It is important however that companies get a good understanding of what is involved and ensure they follow all the proper procedures.”
