Argia Gilbey- Legal Secretary

Name: Argia Gilbey

Role: Legal Secretary, Corporate Services

Office: North Bailey House, Oxford

I started work for Marshall & Galpin in 2004 as a fee earner; on the refinance team covering primarily Woolwich remortgages. I had been working for the Woolwich in their mortgage processing centre so my insider knowledge was useful.  Prior to this, my career was with the Halifax. I was a personal finance manager for the Halifax and had been with them for 24 years – most of the time in their service centre at North Bailey House, Oxford. So a touch of the twilight zones when I walked back into the same office for my interview!

Up until 2008 I worked within various departments for M & G including processing RAC accident claims in the Personal Injury team and then back to property dealing with the good, bad and ugly aspects of property transactions.

M & G merged with  Withy King in late 2008 and Withy King brought with them a much larger employment team with a subsequent opening for secretary.  The majority of the role was in employment and the remainder in Corporate Dispute Resolution.  The difference in this role as well was that there would be strong links with the Bath and Swindon offices; sharing work, getting to know the other staff and generally being in a much larger team.  Though the thought of going into a completely new department, without any real in-depth knowledge and dealing with so many more people was daunting; good training and support was given.  A couple of team bonding days also helped to get to know people and we had a great laugh. Herding ducks springs to mind!

Just when I thought it couldn’t get any better, we had a new corporate department in Oxford to add to the mix and these three departments are known collectively as Corporate Services.  From day to day I am dealing with work in each of these departments – so it keeps it interesting and a little schizophrenic.

I’ve been able to help in some marketing events which I found very interesting and taken part in the famous Royds Withy King quiz.  To begin with I took part in a team and then moved on to setting the quiz.  It is really great fun (aside from the heckling!) and we manage to raise such a lot of money for our charities so that takes the sting out of it!!

I feel if you take an interest and be a part of things Royds Withy King has a lot to offer and I may have started off in a certain role, in a certain department but with the support and interest that I’ve received, it is now so much more.
