Your training contract
Your training contract at Royds Withy King will typically consist of four different areas of practice (seats), both contentious and non-contentious. Being a full service law firm, you will have the opportunity to do seats across various areas of law without having to chose a focus on corporate or private client law. Each seat will usually last 6 months and we will work with you to ensure you get the most from each seat.
Induction and support
Before your training contract starts, you will receive a full introduction to life at Royds Withy King and what to expect from your training contract.
As you’d expect, we give you all the formal support you need from the very start of your training contract. You will agree personal training objectives for each of your seats with your Supervisor and complete a weekly training record to track the progress of your new skills development. We will also support you to successfully complete your Professional Skills Course.
At the end of each seat you will benefit from open and frank feedback about your progress to help you grow and develop into a fantastic solicitor.
What you might not expect is the level of informal support and guidance you will receive on a daily basis. As a firm we have an open and supportive culture. While formal processes work well and provide valuable structure to your training contract, we find our trainees flourish and develop with a high level of informal support. You will find that you can rely on significant amounts of partner time and 1-2-1 guidance throughout your traineeship. Business Unit Managers and Department Heads are thoroughly approachable and will make time to answer your questions.
When you first join Royds Withy King, you will be provided with a “buddy” to give you extra support in your first six months and help you settle into the firm. Your buddy will normally be a second year trainee and someone who has been through the same experience as you. They will be there to help you to navigate your way through your first few months and to answer any questions you might have, however small!
Richard Brooks is our Training Principal and a Partner in our Personal Injury department. Richard takes an active involvement in supporting and guiding you during your training contract. You will have regular meetings with Richard throughout your training contract. Find out more about Richard here.
All our trainees have a two-year fixed term contract as standard.
Our current salaries vary depending on your office location;
- First Year – £26,000- £32,000
- Second Year – £27,000 – £34,000
- Newly Qualified- £37,000- £40,000
