Bribery Act expert to address European conference in Copenhagen

Claus Andersen, from the solicitors’ Corporate and Commercial team, will be addressing more than 100 delegates at the eighth annual European GRC Summit on the subject of the UK’s Bribery Act.

The flagship legislation, which came into force in 2011, was introduced in an effort to combat corrupt practices in companies.

Claus, who is an expert on the law, will give his speech at the Confederation of Danish Industries, in Copenhagen, on September 22nd at 10.00 am.

He will explain how businesses can ensure they comply with the Act, at a time when an increasing number of investigations are commenced and prosecutions are being brought.

Claus said:

"The Bribery Act is a piece of legislation which companies and businesses with activity in England cannot afford to ignore. With its severe sanctions the Bribery Act can potentially destroy a business which is found to be violating the Act. In addition, bribery allegations and investigations can also severely damage the reputation of a business. Therefore, it is important for businesses to set up measures which secure that they comply with the Act."

Companies from across the continent will be attending to discuss and debate GRC issues including bribery, fraud and cyber crime, and how they can best meet forthcoming challenges.

Microsoft, Shell, the Bank of England and Barclays are among the businesses and institutions to have participated in previous conferences.
