£96,950 awarded to a claimant for substandard care resulting in a sacral pressure sore
The Claimant suffered with multiple sclerosis so had a pre-existing vulnerability to pressure sores. He was admitted to hospital with pneumonia and was treated on an acute assessment ward.
Hospital staff failed to wash him properly and failed to mobilise him adequately. By the time he was discharged from hospital he developed a pressure sore which was approx. 4 x 4 inches on his lower back.
The sore delayed his recovery from illness and he required 18 months of treatment before it finally resolved.
