About Tom

Tom heads up our Private Client team in Oxford. His appointment with the firm in 2011 has, effectively, brought him home. He originally qualified with Marshall & Galpin, who merged with RWK Goodman in 2008, before heading to Boodle Hatfield and then Manches where he became a partner.

Being Oxford born and bred, Tom is very close to the needs and concerns of his clients and their families and has the advantage of working with a network of expert teams based across our regional offices.

The legal directories praise him for being “astute and approachable”, “capable and diplomatic” and for having “a good knowledge of trusts and probate” whilst being “well liked by clients”, qualities that can help make the difficult process of making a Will or administering an estate so much easier to deal with. Chambers and Partners UK, who recognise Tom as a “Leader in his field”, have described him as “an excellent communicator who provides sound advice and guidance”.  Tom regularly works with business owners and other high net worth clients, and is noted for giving “excellent, well thought-out advice about trusts and wills.” The Legal 500 UK reports client-focused and professional” Tom Gilman “explains things brilliantly in layman’s terms, allowing his clients to make an informed decision.” The same source also commended his “excellent advice” and “very good client manner”.

Tom advises on a broad range of issues including;

  • Wills
  • Inheritance Tax
  • Powers of attorney
  • Court of Protection
  • Probate and estate administration
  • Trusts and estate planning

"I help clients at very difficult or emotional times in their lives. I work closely with my colleagues across our firm sorting out and managing appropriate trusts or setting up powers of attorney that can often be overlooked at a time when they are really needed. It’s all about being prepared and planning for the future so that when the time comes, we can help to save any unnecessary stress or worry."
